Architecture in Edinburgh, Scotland

I recently spent a few days up in Edinburgh, Scotland and was amazed at some of the wonderful architecture. I particularly liked the combination of old and modern but was really impressed with the modern architecture. My favourite piece of modern architecture was the new Scottish Parliament building in Holyrood, which was designed by the Catalan Enric Miralles, who unfortunately died before its completion. Here are some of my images from this photogenic building.

The other building that I liked was a combination of old & modern architecture used at Usher Hall in the city centre. Here are a couple of my images.

Here are some more images of this beautiful city.

It really was a marvellous short break and this wonderful city is well worth a visit.

The Grimaldi Memorial Service 2011

Every year on the the first weekend in February, clowns from far and wide, attend a memorial service for the celebrated clown Joseph Grimaldi at Trinity Church, Dalston, London. I’ve been fascinated by Grimaldi since my first flat in Exmouth Market, London, was opposite to a property that Grimaldi had once lived in, some 200 years ago. I decided to go this year and get some images and took the family along. The whole service was delightful and we all enjoyed it, especially my son who loved seeing all the clowns. The service was even attended by the Speaker of the House of Commons, John Bercow MP and his wife Sally, who was pictured in an infamous photo this week.
Here are some of my images of the day and they were all taken on a Nikon D3S in low light.

Australia’s secret Ashes weapon ?

I’ve heard though the grapevine that in Australia’s desperation to win the Ashes that they have dropped their leading fast bowler Mitchell Johnson and are replacing him with Doug Bollinger. Johnson had a bad game at the Gabba without doubt, no wickets, no runs, dropped catch etc but are England going to be terrified of a Mr Tumble lookalike charging in ? Paint on a red nose and he’d be a dead ringer !!

Having fun with Poladroid.

I’ve been having a bit of fun with an application that I’ve been shown recently. It’s called Poladroid and is a free download that can turn your images into Polaroid style pictures. It’s easy to use and is available at http://www.poladroid.net

I love the examples that I’ve tried and thought I’d post the results here. Have fun !Piccadilly Circus Steps

I keep being asked if the new apple ipad is going to be useful for photographers. I still don’t know, but it is useful for many other reasons. See this video by Jesse Rosten for further details. Very clever !

A wedding photographer takes the plunge !

Here’s an utterly classic photography clip from you tube. I know that a wedding photographers job is difficult but this is simply hilarious. Enjoy and have a little bit of sympathy.
